I’m sitting here in front of my laptop. My stomach hurts and I feel sick, but I don’t regret a minute of it! I take that back, I regret not standing in line for the churros. The churros looked amazing but the line snaked around the entire expo center. Why would so many people stand in line so long for churros when they sell them everywhere in Brazil? But then when you see them you understand. They are stuffed with chocolate or doce de leite and sprinkled in M&M’s, Kit Kat bars, and all types of goodies!
Where are we you might ask? Well, we decided to take it easy this weekend. You see, we have been traveling a lot lately and we needed a little down time. We decided to relax and enjoy our small city of Joinville in Santa Catarina, Brazil. This so happened to be the Food Truck Festival weekend. And wow does Joinville know how throw a food truck festival.
They had 35 food trucks offering everything from Italian food, specialty sandwiches, gourmet hamburgers, sushi, fried chicken strips in gorgonzola cheese sauce, jumbo hotdogs stuffed with everything imaginable, artisanal beers, ice cream, and the churros. I am still kicking myself as I type this for skipping the churros!
What makes this so special? We have food trucks in the USA too. Well, I’ve never seen such a large turnout of people for food trucks in the USA. It was as if the entire city of Joinville attended this festival. They had areas set up for photo ops, a stage, music, tables, and everyone was mingling and having a great time. It was a special treat for us because it reminded us a lot of the USA.
We enjoyed some fried chicken, hamburgers, and pulled beef sandwiches. Our initial strategy was to share our food so we could try more things. We gave up this strategy when we stepped out the main doors and found the special food truck court that was all gourmet hamburgers! Needless to say, we had a fabulous time and Joinville once again hit the ball out of the park with this festival!
